David is renowned for his lap steel guitars, which are played by artists such as Ben Harper, David Lindley, and Ed Littlefield. In addition to the iconic Hawaiian style of steel guitar popularized by early 20th luthiers Knutsen and Weissenborn, David has designed his own unique variety of acoustic steel guitar: the bowlback, inspired by the rounded ribs of the lute.
