Appalachian Three-String Dulcimer, 1967

  • Lacquer finish

  • Spruce top

  • Goncalo Alves head, sides, & back

  • Brazilian rosewood tuning pegs

This is a very early three-string dulcimer that I made for myself, in '67. It's made of Goncalo Alves, which is very dense Brazilian hardwood, and the top is spruce. Those are hand-turned Brazilian rosewood pegs. I had very few tools at that point & was just a step above scratching stuff out with a pocketknife.
