sunburst finish. f-4 Mandolins have a full resonant single note sound,
good for Irish, Swing and Old Timey music. |
The
Mandolin
family consists
of Mandolins, Mandolas, Mandocellos, and
Octave Mandolins
Mandolin
tops and backs are hand carved to create an arch-top
Mandolas
are larger than
Mandolins
and therefore
have
deeper, fuller tone and sound. Tuned a fifth below the mandolin, the
mandola has more sustain than the mandolin.
The Octave
Mandolin- above, right, uses the
same
body
as the Mandocello but has a shorter neck and 22 inches string length.
It is tuned one octave below a Mandolin.
The
Mandocello-
was patterned
after, but
not copied from a Gibson Style Mandocello. It has a 24 3/4
inches string length and is built relatively heavy. It's
carved top has a tall bridge and is built to be played strongly. It can
be a real canon in the right hands. The neck is slim and has a two way
adjustable truss rod for low action and finger board radius for ease of
playing.

head has ebony overlay on the front and back. The fingerboard is arched
to a 10 inch radius, is 1 1/8 inches wide at the nut
and has 22
easily accessible frets. Custom tail piece.

This Octave
Mandolin has an oval sound hole, same as f-4, but Octave Mandolins can be
made in any Mandolin style body, such as A style or f-5.
